The new terminal will cost far more than $88 million, less than half is funded by grants. Who pays the rest?

As much as I like to see a new terminal at our airport, I question the financial plan for this project as proposed by my opponent at the airport district board. MaryAnn Leffel proposed revenue-driven bonds, which are high risk bonds and do not require public approval during an election. A 50 million dollar bond over 30 years at current interest rates requires over 3 million dollars of annual payback. The best year our airport had was last year with a net profit of 2.5 million dollars. This bond can only be paid back with increased aircraft traffic and increased fees at our airport, to prevent defaulting. What will happen if we have an economic slowdown or another recession during the next 30 years? Guess who will pick up the tab?

Your voice needs to be heard and residents need to be represented at our Monterey Regional Airport District Board.

I will advocate for public representation and transparency at airport meetings while future decisions are being made.

I am committed to making positive changes in our community. Over the last year, I have had the privilege of listening to your concerns, understanding your needs, and witnessing the strength of our collective spirit. Aviation Noise Abatement and Pollution Policies need to be reviewed in Monterey and in collaboration with the FAA.

I am ONLY supporting a state-of-the-art new terminal for easy access and better use if we can afford it and if bond issues go onto the next election ballot for voters approval.
